A Classic Corner Book Review: Metzengerstein by Edgar Allan Poe

Title: MetzengersteinBy: Edgar Allan Poe

Rating: 5/5

What an amazing dark, weird short, short story. Two families have been battling it out for many years. In one family, the Metzengersteins, only one young, immature man is left (he's referred to as the Baron). In the other, the Berliftings is an elderly man whose memory is deteriorating but his love for his families steeds and hunting stays strong. The MC (Baron) was well-rounded with ever changing mood swings based on the weird events that took place. There are a few creepy bits that caught me off-guard which I really enjoyed and tons of clues as to how the Baron and his family played their part in a feud that turned deadly. Most of all, I appreciated the symbolism and the shocking twists. I don't want to say too much without giving it away. This was a fun, quick, classical read. If you're new to reading Poe, I think this is a good place to start! Check it out. It's free.
